Conte hopes to retain his job even without winning a trophy
Underfire Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has stressed the need to continue his work even if Chelsea fail to win a trophy this season. Chelsea have lost two back to back English Premier League matches against Bournemouth and Watford putting the Champions' chances of making the top four in jeopardy.
Conte still feels that trust in his work is what should help him keep his job rather than winning trophies.
He said: "I think that you continue to work with a manager or coach not because of what he achieves in one season, but because you trust in him," said Conte. "Then you build something with him.
"But it doesn't mean you have to win something, because that's not simple. Especially in England, it's not simple.
"In my vision, you can win but, at the same time, the club might not be happy to stay with you. For this reason, it's right to send the coach away.
"At the same time, you can trust in a coach and his work and continue with him even if you don't win, and try and build something important.
"There are two ways - there is a stupid way and an intelligent way. If the club decides to send me away, I don't know when, it'll be because they're not happy with my work."
The Italian had earlier suggested that he's more than ready to extend his contract if Chelsea want him to.
Conte said: "We have the time to make the best decision. I'm giving all of myself - me and my staff and my players, for this club. We are doing the maximum for this club.
"If the club understands this and the club wants to extend a new contract, we can talk. We can talk. Why not?
"But I repeat, I don't like to try to push with the press for a new contract. My contract expires in 2019. My desire and my will are to continue to work with this club."
Chelsea will have a chance to get back to winning ways when they face West Brom at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.
