Lineker: Chelsea could win Champions League next season
England Legend and BBC Pundit, Gary Lineker has expressed concerns about the possibility of an English club winning the Champions League this season but rather suggested that Chelsea could be up for it next season.
Lineker said: “Will an English team win it this year? I doubt it. I don’t think we’re quite there yet. Chelsea next season, you’d give them a chance.
“But ultimately, we will be a power again because we have all the wealth. Ultimately the big players will come to the Premier League.
“It’s just starting to change. Whatever you think of him he was still a superstar when he came, Pogba. I think others will drift here because of the wealth of the Premier League.
“We will get stronger. It might just take a couple of years. I’m not saying we can’t win it this year because we’ve got some good sides, but it’s not likely.
“I would say City are our best bet to go all the way. They’ve been struggling a little bit in the league.
“But they might actually be more suited to European football they way Guardiola plays before he comes to terms with life in the Premier League.”
